| Designing Memory: Objects for Difficult Histories Organised by the Accessory and Bookbinding Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) This Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) is connected to the future Patarei Museum for Victims of Communism in Tallinn, Estonia. The course explores what a museum shop could offer in the context of difficult histories and memory culture. Students will develop thoughtful product concepts, objects, and experiences related to the museum’s themes. Outcomes will include sketches, models, prototypes, and visual presentations developed during an intensive on-site workshop at EKA. Course details : ECTS: 3 ECTS :Virtual component: 13 August 2026 (2-hour online session), led by Kristjan Mändmaa :Physical workshop in Tallinn: 17–21 August 2026, led by Kelian Luisk :Location: Estonian Academy of Arts & Patarei Prison, Tallinn, Estonia Participants will: - explore themes of memory, difficult histories, and museum representation,
- develop concepts and prototypes for the future museum shop,
- receive feedback from tutors and museum representatives,
- use EKA workshops and prototyping facilities.
Please note:
Students may participate with Erasmus+ funding or as Erasmus+ zero-grant participants. Even students receiving zero-grant support must be registered in the Erasmus+ Beneficiary Module in order for EKA to receive the programme funding. You may request a CIRRUS / Nordplus scholarship for participating in the course.
