Course description:
This short course introduces graphic design students to the principles and practices of creating visual identities and designing logos without a predefined brief. Inspired by a song, students will create a logo and a complete visual identity for a band of their choice. Students will learn how to translate music, lyrics, and other sonic elements into visual symbols, forms, and colours. The course covers concept development, symbolism, typography, colour theory, and adaptability across different media. By the end of the course, students will produce a professional logo and a mini brand toolkit.
Course objectives:
• To introduce students to the fundamentals of logo and branding.
• To try create their own brief
• To develop students’ skills in conceptualizing and designing meaningful, research-based logos.
• To strengthen abilities in typographic selection, colour strategy, and symbolic representation for music branding.
• To teach students how to build a cohesive visual system adaptable across digital and print.
Course outcomes:
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• Identify how to work in a situation when there is no brief of the project.
• Design an original logo that reflects the essence of the song.
• Apply appropriate typography, color palettes, and graphic elements.
• Present design decisions through sketches, mood boards, and a final brand toolkit.
• Demonstrate professional skills in preparing logo files and brand assets for practical implementation.
CIRRUS funding:
The selected students will receive a fixed CIRRUS grant in the amount of 580 Euros to cover travel and food expenses in Lithuania.
Accommodation: The VAA Faculty of Klaipėda can provide accommodation for students attending the course, if needed. The accommodation fee is €10 per night. The student residence consists of three rooms accommodating up to six students in total, with two students sharing each room. Bathroom and toilet facilities, as well as basic amenities, are provided.
IMPORTANT: Applicants are expected to check that participation in the intensive course will not clash with scheduled activities in their home academies, BEFORE submitting their application.
