Senior Lecturer in industrial design with focus on form, sketching and visualisation

We are looking for a Senior Lecturer on artistic/practice based foundation in industrial design, with focus on form, sketching and visualisation. You have worked professionally as an industrial designer and have experience of teaching in industrial design. This is a full time position, and the last day to apply is August 15, 2015.

Key responsibilities

As a Senior Lecturer you will work with teaching and tutoring of students on basic and advanced level in industrial design with focus on product design and 3D visualisation.

You will be responsible for teaching, education planning and developing the education in industrial design, together with our programme directors, teachers and other staff.

Developing the subject area of industrial design – artistically, professionally and pedagogically – is an important part of your work, as is contributing to a development of Umeå Institute of Design as a whole, through strategic collaborations internally as well as externally.

Qualifications

According to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, a person shall qualify for appointment as Senior Lecturer if he or she, within an artistic discipline:

– has demonstrated pedagogic skills

– holds an artistic/practice based doctorate, or has demonstrated artistic skills, or has attained other professional skills relevant in relation to the subject area of the appointment and the work duties included in the appointment.

The artistic skills are pertinent to the field of industrial design, with a focus on form, sketch and visualization.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a person with substantial experience as an industrial designer and who has a good understanding of Scandinavian user centered design. You have very good knowledge and skills in form, sketching and visualisation in all stages of the design process, and you also have documented experience in the field. You have experience of sketch and visualization in relation to three dimensional form work and model making, physical as well as digital, and it is an advantage if you also can show skills in digital 3D modelling and 3D visualization.

You have an ability to work collaboratively with form and form giving in a professional or commercial design context, and very good experience of design work in relation to product development and production methods. You also have a good ability to reflect over these aspects in relation to changes and development within the field of design.

Documented experience of teaching in industrial design is essential, and we want you to be able to formulate your own pedagogical vision or focus in relation to the design process and the role of the industrial designer.

You have the ability to work collaboratively with the surrounding society, with the purpose of creating visibility and understanding for, and subject development within, industrial design. You are also good at articulating and reflecting on industrial design as a field in a social context.

 

Proficiency in English is essential, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.
